The objectives of SODET include:
- To tap and share amongst the Defence Organisations, the unique manufacturing facilities and process related core competencies
- To facilitate synergy of technological strengths across member organisations to reduce reliance on imported technology
- To improve resource utilisation through collaborative pooling and working partnerships
- To establish centres of excellence while minimising duplicative efforts
- To identify and resolve shared challenges in technology management, benchmarking, strategic planning, and concurrent engineering approaches
- To conduct ISO certification audits for members and suppliers at no cost through SCB
- To recommend research and development areas to Government
- To establish liaison with governmental bodies, institutions, and commercial entities regarding defence matters
- To cooperate with similar organisations and gather information on global manufacturing developments
- To organise educational events including lectures, discussions, conferences, seminars, and workshops
